My Second “new” home

Just a month ago, I had travelled to the South of Luzon with my mom to visit some people and reconnect with what once was really a second home. It had been 6 years since I had last been to this beautiful Island down South, a place called Cebu. Many things have already changed over the course of six years. Evidently, it was as if I was just in Manila.

We knew people around Cebu because it was the birth place of my Dad (love you Papa, and I hope you continue watching over us and praying for us) so it wasn’t so difficult “belonging” as to the fact that, we spent endless summers and sometimes even Christmas vacation there. Though it may seem that I don’t get to see my Dad’s other relatives anymore, the vibe still feels the same. Even more like home. It may seem crazy to think, but it is what it is. Saying that it feels as though I am home is because of the environment Cebu exudes. It’s the cross between the Traditional and the modern. A lot of places I have been to seemed to adapt into the changing times. They have become more developed but at the same time, keeping up with the original and traditional. Just giving it a modern twist.

But anyhow, going back to how Cebu has changed. Though I am not a native of Cebu, I have come to love everything about it. It’s people, places, traditions, and the environment have stayed the same except how everything looks and how modern it has become (though again, still maintaining the glory and pride of Cebu).  As I said, it exudes something some would say, different. Though you may think that it’s just a province or what have you, but that’s not just what it is. It’s really something. Hence, people, places, traditions, and the environment, you can even include the dialect give you such a different feeling – a feeling of warmth. Though the buildings have become more evident and really more industrial, it still make you feel as though you’re in a whole new place but feeling as though you’re at the comfort of your own home or rather the place where you’ve grown up.

Soooo, I’ve been saying how I have come to love everything about Cebu and how I now have more respect for it’s beauty than ever before, it’s because on December, I’ll be traveling there with my sister who has been away for almost 6 months already (she studies under a scholarship program by Purdue University in Korea. 2 years in Korea and 2 years in the US). She’ll be traveling to Cebu with her classmate/roommate/and new best friend. It will be her first time in the Philippines and what a great to start off her vacation here, than beginning in Cebu. I have been so excited to be with them and sharing them my newly reunited love for Cebu. Most especially how everything has changed into something everyone can be proud of.

Now, where does the title of this post come into place into the entirety of what I’ve been talking about? What’s the connection of My Second “new” home and what role does it play in our much anticipated vacation to Cebu? Well, the picture above says it all. I have found a “new” home in the comfort of a hotel. Because our house in Cebu isn’t as well maintained as it should be, and it is actually far from where we usually go to in Cebu, we found a place that would suit our taste and having the environment as though you are in your own home. For whoever can guess this lobby, I may just have a reward for you =)) and no it’s a not stay in the hotel =)) but maybe something. HAHA! Anyhow, everything about is as homey as in can get but it being at the heart of almost everything important to me. Well not exactly to me, but to my mom. Hehe. It’s 30 minutes away from the airport, 5 minutes away from the Carmelite Monastery, and literally a minute away from SM Cebu =)) And when it’s SM, you  know, “we’ve got it all for you” =)) funny, but true. I won’t get into every detail of that trip I had, but imagine how in awe I was. I mean it wasn’t THAT spectacular, but the fact that many comforts and conveniences were at the reach of our hands, it was just as though I was home, but more exciting. It took a bit of a wow reaction for me that all these places were near this hotel. Again, it was just like home.

[hayyyy how I should have written this a while back when I got back from the Trip.] But I guess, it’s cause it’s just a few more months away, I really can’t contain my excitement. There’s just more to explore around Cebu. Not just the city, but going around it’s beaches and stuff. I have gone to those places notable about Cebu, but it’s different now because I’m much older than before [state the obvious! haha!] but because I have much more respect for the culture and really, it makes me want to trace back history at it’s finest. Though you might think, there are other places in the Philippines to do so, but hey, you can’t blame a girl for wanting to start in the place her own father grew up. I might as well do it as early as now, than regret later on not having really taken time to learn about my father’s heritage and the life he lead.

Anyhow, these are all just part of what I want to do when the year starts to end. It’s actually a resolution waiting to happen. And it’s really going to be great to get to go back to my second “new” home – Cebu. It will also give me the opportunity to visit my Ninang Elo and my God-siblings who live there, as well as my dad’s cousins and hopefully some others. TIME TO RECONNECT as others would say. Hehe

It’s like I just want to press rewind and go back to 6 years ago, around summer time. I really enjoyed everything back then. How much more now.

Hopefully, by the grace of God, everything turns out as planned 😀
